We’ve all been there. From start to finish, it can be tough to figure out what you want to write, and how to make it error-free without spending hours working on it.
Hi, I’m Kate, a freelance health and wellness copywriter. I, like most copywriters, dread the time and effort it takes when you’re writing and just lack the motivation to have to come up with material and then make it perfect with the editing process.
That’s why I put together a list of some of my favorite tools and resources that help make the writing process easier.
Plus, they’re free!
So read on and let me know what you think in the comments below.
You Shouldn't Skimp on Researching and Editing Copy
Copywriting is a variety of things, but the main point of quality copy is to write in a way that gets your reader to take action.
Whether it be to click on a link, also known as a call to action, to buy your product or service, sign up for your newsletter, read a blog that links to your website, or write an article that boosts your SEO in Google, copywriting is everywhere and important for businesses to succeed and stand out in the crowd.
Because let’s face it, in particular, the health and wellness industry is CROWDED with so many businesses trying to sell and do the same thing. It’s important to stand out from the rest and really understand where your audience is coming from.
Copywriting is important to any business, and so is making sure that the copy you are writing makes sense, and it’s professionally written.
You don't need to be 100% accurate with grammar, but you should write in a way that establishes trust and authority in your field of expertise. Your article should flow in a way that attracts the reader.
I get it. Sometimes the rush deadline is so quick that you need to write an article at lightning speed and without the help of an editor, and not to mention editors can be expensive especially when you’re first starting out.
Here are the tools that I use to make your life easier and help you write a more trustworthy article without using an editor and save you a bunch of time.
Best Copywriting Research Tools
One important step in writing is to research what you’re writing about. It doesn’t mean you have to head to your local library, read five books on a certain topic, and then get ready to write.
It can be as simple as looking up your topic and finding trustworthy sources to add to your article.
Here are two that I use when researching health and wellness topics:
PubMed- Aka the National Library of Medicine. Simply type in your health topic and hundreds of articles will pop up for you to review. These are trustworthy sources and are ones that I definitely feel confident adding to my copy.
Google Scholar- You can type in the Google Scholar search bar and receive hundreds of scientifically backed and trustworthy academic articles on the topic you are researching.
The more specific you are during your search, the better your research results will be.
For example, when researching yoga poses for pregnancy, if you simply type in yoga you are going to have a lot harder time finding articles specific to your topic vs. typing in prenatal yoga poses.
Research doesn’t have to take your whole day and it shouldn’t!
And guess what, writing shouldn't either.
My Favorite Writing Tools (One of Them is Copywriting AI)
So once you’ve researched, and are creating your outline, figuring out what you want to write about, what keywords to use, and how you want to piece together your article can be tough.
Here’s how I do it, and what you should be using because it really just makes life easier.
I use a few different tools to write my article:
CHAT GPT- Yes, you may have heard of this new tool that some writers are wary of. I’m not concerned about it taking over, and I’m also not going to dive into that rabbit hole, but I am going to explain how exceptional this tool is when you’re in a rut and need help creating an outline. Just type in what you’re writing about and ask it to create an outline. It’ll generate an entire outline within seconds. It’s incredibly helpful and your outlines take seconds.
Google- Google can be a helpful tool because you can type in a topic, and see what is trending, what others have written about, and even see what sources they used. If you want some inspiration, just review articles that are already out there. You can take little ideas from each, and even use some of the sourced material. But make it your own work. No one likes a copycat.
Ubersuggest- Having trouble figuring out keywords to use for SEO? Neil Patel, aka the SEO guru, created Ubersuggest. It's a helpful tool to guide you in the right direction for keyword research. Type in the topic, and it will generate keywords that will help boost your SEO. It also goes over which keywords have been ranking better than others. Makes it easier to decide which to use.
Keyword Planner- Another useful tool that goes over trending keywords to use when writing your article. Just type in the topic, and it’ll generate short and long-tail keywords.
Once you have your keywords and your outline, you should be good to start writing your article. But, before you hit publish, the dreaded editing process comes in.
Guess what, you don't have to dread editing with some of these useful and easy-to-use tools!
Editing Tools That Have Transformed My Copywriting
So once your writing process is done, it’s time to review and edit before hitting the publish button.
Editing doesn’t have to be painful. If you’re lacking the editing gene, you won’t have to worry with these essential tools.
Grammarly- Grammarly is probably my favorite tool because you can add it to your application as a plug-in, and it starts reviewing your work as you’re typing. I don’t even have to go to their site. I just review the document and it highlights any errors and offers suggestions to make the writing better.
Prowritingaid- This app is wonderful because it has so many editing fixes built into it. It feels like an editor is actually looking at your work and not an application. It reviews grammar, readability of the article, the style of writing, sentence length, if you’re using weak adverbs, etc…
Quetext- This website is great for checking plagiarism. You type in your article, and it scrolls the web to check for duplicate wording. It will generate a report for you, and then you can go through and update your article to ensure you aren’t copying someone’s work by mistake.
Headline Studio- This site will analyze your headlines so that you are able to generate killer headlines that attract your readers to your article. I aim for a score of 70 or better.
Capitalize My Title- This is my best friend. I use this for any titles and headings in my articles. It makes sure you are capitalizing your headings correctly which can be confusing when you are dealing with different writing styles. But don’t worry- this app has you covered.
If you use the tools above, you can be assured to be on the right path to having an article that is well-written and free of mistakes that you may have missed otherwise.
Using These Online Copywriting Tools Should Make Your Life Easier
I recommend using at least one of these tools to get started if not all of them. My routine includes all of them when I write and it has made my life so much easier and my writing faster.
Of course, not every site will be for you, and that’s ok! But, I think you should try them out and see how they can help accelerate your writing and maybe even save you a few bucks if you aren’t ready to hire an editor.
And, if you liked my article, visit my site. I write about trending health and wellness and copywriting articles.
P.S. I don’t receive any compensation from these apps, I just love them so much and wanted to share them with you.
